How to Measure Guide
Measuring for a Reclosable Poly Bag
A reclosable poly bag is any bag manufactured with a standard zip track closure or slider zip closure. Also known as Ziplock bags, resealable bags, zip-lock plastic bags, and secure bags. Resealable bags have a number of applications ranging from food storage, small parts, manufacturing, electronics, and many others.
- Measure Length (L) from the bottom of the bag to the base of the reclosable seal.
- Measure Width (W) of the bag from side to side.
- For rigid items, add ½” to the Width (W) of the bag to allow the item to fit through the opening.
- For thick or bulky items adjust dimensions accordingly.
- Add ½” to 2” to both dimensions for a looser fit.
Example: For a flat product 3½” wide by 5½” deep, the bag dimensions should measure at least 4” W x 6” L.
Measuring for a Box Lining
Box lining gusseted poly bags are great for keeping the product’s moisture away from the box. Large Gusseted box liners are perfect for shipping produce, frozen items, and any product with moisture.
- Measure the width, depth, and height of the box to be lined. The depth is the shortest side.
- Add 1" to the width and depth of the box to determine the width and depth of the bag
- For the Length (L) of the bag add the depth + Height + 7 inches.
Example: If the box size is 18" (wide) x 12" (deep) x 14" (high), the bag dimensions are as follows: Width (W) is 19" Depth (D) is 13" Length (L) is 33"
Measuring for a Round Container
- Measure the diameter and height of the container to be lined.
- To determine the Circumference (C) of the container, multiply the diameter by 3.14.
- To determine the Width (W) of the bag, divide the Circumference (C) by 2. Add 1" for a looser fit. To determine the Length (L) of the bag, add the diameter to the height. Add 5" for overhang.
Example: If the container size is 12" (diameter) x 30" (height), the bag dimensions are as follows: Width (W) is 20" Length (L) is 47"
Measuring for a Square Container
- Measure the width, depth, and height of the container to be lined. The depth is the shortest side.
- To determine the Width (W) of the bag, add the width of container + depth of container + 2" for a looser fit.
- To determine the Length (L) of the bag, add 1/2 the depth to the height. Add 5" for overhang.
Example: If the container size is 14" (wide) x 10" (deep) x 32" (high), the bag dimensions are as follows: Width (W) is 26" length (L) is 42"
Measuring for a Pallet Cover
Extra-large plastic bags for covering pallets during shipment. Easy to use, just slips over the top of the pallet and drops down to cover the entire product. Widely used to cover pallets that will store inside or outside. Also great for shipping to and from various locations. Pallet covers protect your product(s) from the weather, dust, paint, water, snow, and other types of debris.
- Measure the width, depth, and height of the pallet to be covered. (The depth is the shortest side).
- Add 2" to the width and the depth (W) of the pallet for the size of the cover
- The Length (L) of the cover is determined by adding ½ of the depth to the height.
Example: If the pallet size is 40" (wide) x 36" (deep) x 50" (high), the cover dimensions should be: Width (W) is 42" Depth (D) is 38" Length (L) is 68"
